Let’s take it back to the 90’s real quick. Who doesn’t love the Wu-Tang Clan?! The infamous 90’s hip-hop group from NYC (of course) was made up of RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killa, Method Man, Raekwon, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa.
WuTang Clan is known for their songs “C.R.E.A.M (Cash Rules Everything Around Me),” Method Man, and Protect Ya Neck, just to name a few. But one of my all time favorite tracks, is Ice Cream by Raekwon which featured Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Cappadonna.
This track is referring to the love of beautiful women of all colors, or “flavors” rather. Each verse in this track admired every aspect of different types of women, from their attitude to their hygiene to their body. This song reminds me that guys were NOT afraid to approach women that they wanted. Men also weren’t afraid to let a woman know that he wanted to sleep with her.
I love this track because it’s classic hip hop. Back then, there were no physical “standards” for women. She didn’t have to have huge boobs or a big booty for a guy to like her, all women were considered beautiful to someone, despite “body type,” nationality or skin complexion.
I believe that technology has ruined the beauty in imperfections, which has had a major effect on self esteem in both men and women. So, for all of the queens out there that know that they are beautiful, for all of the guys who are confident enough to confront a queen, and OF COURSE for all of my WUTANG CLAN FANS…. Let’s run that back!
