So there is an interview of President Barak Obama being asked who would win in a rap battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The president picked Kendrick Lamar with no hesitation.

Here’s the full Q&A interview with President Obama (skip to 27:15)

I can honestly agree with President Obama on this one, no, not because he’s the president, but because Kendrick’s raps lie a bit deeper than the surface. Kendrick raps more on knowledge than on emotion like Drake.

Don’t get me wrong, Drake is amazing and one of my favorite rappers of all time, BUT he raps from the heart, not the mind. Drake writes music that you can feel where on the other hand Kendrick writes music to feed the mind. Drake writes to get over a situation and Kendrick writes to get through it.

Personally, I think that Kendrick writes around the current events of African American culture. Some things that are referred to can go over an average listener’s head. Theres a bit more knowledge and substance in Kendrick’s lyrics. Kendrick’s genius shows through every music video he puts forth. His concepts shows so much respect and pride of where he’s from, how he grew up and what he as become today.

Here’s Kendrick’s Alright video.

Drake, is different, he writes without directing his music to a specific audience. If you can relate to it, then his music is for you, but Drake will write on issues that bothers him as an artist and your average person. His music revolves around everyday life for those who have already made it to the top, and those who are starting from the bottom, which is why he is loved world wide.

Here’s a little taste of Drizzy.
